Buffalo Bills right guard Kraig Urbik signs four-year contract extension – NFL News
As Buffalo Bills are now out of the playoff contention, the team is now focusing on building their squad for the 2013 season. They started off on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, after they sealed a contract extension with their star right guard Kraig Urbik.
The deal is reportedly worth $13.3 million and has made Urbik locked up with the Bills till the 2016 season.
Urbik will get $2.05 million in guaranteed money next year while the deal also includes $3.5 million in signing bonus.
The right guard played under $1.26 million franchise tender in the 2012 season. Urbik is currently going through his third season with the Bills and the renewed contract will give him a better pay.
Urbik’s huge physique is a massive plus on the field for the Bills. The player has started 26 out of 34 games played for the Bills. Giving his views about Urbik, Bills head coach Chan Gailey said:
“He is a big, strong man, I mean he is a barrel-chested, strong human that has got pretty good movement for his size and is a very versatile player. He’s one of those tough guys you’ve got to have inside.”
Urbik himself has been looking at options about his future, and at one point of time thought to wait till the free agency comes in the offseason.
However, the player finally decided to stay where he feels he will get the maximum opportunity for success. While attending a radio talk show on Tuesday night, Urbik said:
“There was definitely some thought that goes into it, I really like the offer and the opportunity to stay here, so we pounced on that, and I’m really excited about it. I love it here, I love the fans, I love the team. I know what this team is capable of,
and I want to be around when it turns around.”
Urbik is ranked 24th in the list of guards in the National Football league. The player was drafted by Bills in the third round (79th overall pick) in the 2010 draft.
Although Bills have signed Urbik for a long-term deal, the team has big task ahead as players like left guard Andy Levitre and guard Chad Rinehart will become free agents come the offseason.
