Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller satisfied with splitting carries with Fred Jackson – NFL News
As it had been the case throughout the season, Buffalo Bills split the total number of snaps between their two running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller during Week 6 game against Arizona Cardinals on Sunday October, 14, 2012.
It was expected that Spiller would argue about such scheme as he had performed better among the two this season.
On the contrary, Spiller showed satisfaction about sharing carries with Jackson. Talking to the reporters after practice session on Monday, October 15, Spiller said:
“The first game that Fred came back, we tried to do a one series rotation. We will continue to do that. If they want us in on certain plays, the coaching staff will do that but as far as me and Fred are concerned, we think two to three series each is better
because it kind of keeps everybody fresh.”
Spiller carried 12 out of 30 snaps for a total 88 yards on Sunday, while Jackson carried 16 times from a total of 40 snaps.
However, it will become harder for Bills head coach Chan Gailey to give more snaps to Jackson in future because Spiller is playing well.
Answering the question about the number of snaps given to Spiller, Gailey said:
"I know he needs to touch it as much as we possibly can have him touch it, but Fred is another big play guy as well, but I think the issue is how do we get both guys more touches."
Bills are in a difficult situation; they cannot sit out any one of their running backs as they are arguably their best players in the offensive team.
It had been easy for Bills to divide the snaps in the first two weeks as both the players missed considerable time due to injuries.
With both players fit enough to play the entire game, the problem gets even worse. Spiller acknowledges that there is only one ball and he has to share the plays.
Bills have emphasised on giving more plays to the running game and it is only by focusing more on running game that the Bills can utilise both the players effectively.
