Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller upbeat about facing Kansas City Chiefs – NFL News
Running back C.J. Spiller is ready to take on Kansas City Chiefs as he gets the starting running back position in the Buffalo Bills offence.
Bills announced that Spiller will start Week 2 game after their starter Fred Jackson got injured during the season opener against New York Jets. Jackson injured his knee and will remain unavailable for quite some time.
Spiller will get his second spell as starter in the Bills camp. His previous one was in last season in which Jackson got injured during Week 11 game after which Spiller played the last six games of the season.
By getting this opportunity, Spiller hopes to get a breakout season; it will not be any easy task, though. According to the Associated Press, Spiller said:
"It definitely gives you confidence to know that you can do it, but the quote that I am going to stick by for the whole year is `past success doesn't guarantee future success.' I can't just bank on what I did the last six weeks to say I'm capable.''
The running back showed remarkable progress during the final games of the 2011 season, finishing his six starts with astounding figures.
Spiller covered 169 yards in a total of 14 carries, which was the highest-ever score in his career. His best performance came against New York Jets in which he scored a 56-yard rushing touchdown.
Spiller did not have very good rookie season, failing to meet the expectation of being one of the top ten draft picks. His 7,588 yards covered in the college league are the second-highest in the NCAA history.
Spiller was drafted as the ninth overall pick by Bills in the 2010 draft. Bills head coach Chan Gailey believes that Spiller’s game is getting better with time. He said:
“He handled being the guy at the end of last year really well, so I expect him to handle that this year as well, however long we're in this situation, I think he'll be able to handle it. He had a great game, made some great runs, showed great speed and burst.''
