Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller upset about lack of opportunities on the field – NFL News
After a dismal 12-15 defeat against mediocre St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills’ running game is again under the spotlight along with two running backs, Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller, who are now desperate than ever to get more playing time.
Talking to the media after Week 14 game on Sunday, December 09, 2012, Spiller showed his frustration on being limited on the field. Spiller said:
“I really cannot control how many times I touch the ball. I keep saying it over and over. I do not know what else you want me to say. The only thing i can do is when my number is called, just try to do the best I can. Even when it is not, just do the best
I can. Today I let a couple of my pass pros kind of slip a little bit. So I just have to go back to the drawing board to see what I did wrong, try to fix it and finish these last three games on a high note.”
These comments are in total contrast to what Spiller had been saying throughout this season about sharing the snaps with Jackson.
Spiller carried the ball just seven times for a mere 37 yards. He also caught a pass to cover 15 yards.
When Bills head coach Dennis Allen was asked about the reason behind Spiller’s lack of attempts, the coach explained that he wants both the running backs to be fresh and give their best and in order to do that, the team has to divide the snaps.
Spiller has averaged 6.55 rushing yards in the first 13 games of the 2012 season. However, despite having success running the ball, the team has given equal attempts to him and Jackson.
Jackson looked lacklustre during last game and finished with nine attempts for just 14 yards with an average of 1.6 yards per carry. He got injured during the game, but the status of the injury is not yet clear.
Spiller has carried the ball 144 times this season for 944 rushing yards and has scored five touchdowns.
