Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson expects to play on Sunday, C.J. Spiller doubtful – NFL News
Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey is happy with the workout of his running back Fred Jackson and is hopeful that he will be able to play in Week 4 game against New England Patriots on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Jackson went through full practice session for a second day in a row on Thursday, September 27. He had returned to the practice field on Wednesday.
The running back has not been able to play the last two games because of a knee injury he sustained during the Bills season opener against New York Jets which they lost, 28-48.
Gailey indicated that Jackson’s availability for the game on Sunday will depend on his workout in the practice session during next two days. Gailey said:
"Fred worked and worked well today, and there didn't seem to be any residual effect negatively from yesterday. He was in there at the very end. I think if we make it through the next couple days and continue to improve, I think he'll have the opportunity
to play."
At the start of the season, Bills were worried about how to divide playing time between their top running backs Jackson and C.J. Spiller.
As luck would have it, Bills were facing a possibility of both players’ absence at one stage.
The main reason for that was a shoulder injury to Spiller. He is currently recovering from the injury he got during Bills’ 24-14 victory against Cleveland Browns last Sunday, September 23.
Spiller got a few light reps on Thursday, but did not look game-ready. His return looks more likely to be in Week 5.
Jackson reiterated that although he was feeling some soreness on his knee, he is ready to take on Patriots. According to the Associated Press, Jackson said:
"It was a little more sore than expected, but not too much. I'm more disappointed in the way that it feels today. I still want to play."
Bills desperately need at least one of their top running backs to play, as their offensive output depends heavily on the running game.
