Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson out for rest of the 2012 season with MCL Sprain – NFL News
Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson is set to miss all the remaining games of the season after getting a leg injury during 12-15 defeat in Week 14 against St. Louis Rams on Sunday, December 09, 2012.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey made the announcement during a press conference on Monday December 10. Gailey told the reporters that Jackson will not be able to fully heal his injury before the end of the 2012 season. Gailey said:
“He’s not going to make it. He’s going to be out for the rest of the year... It looks like it, but let me hold off to see what is officially, but that looks like the plan.”
Gailey went on to say that Jackson would take around three to five weeks to get fully fit. Jackson got hurt during the final quarter of the game when two Rams’ defensive player tackled his leg.
Jackson was carted off the field after the player failed to put weight on his injured leg. According to Jackson’s agent Ron Raccuia, the player currently has Grade 2 sprain in the medial cruciate ligament (MCL).
The injury could have been more serious as it has affected the same knee which got injured during the season opener against Jets. Talking about the injury, Jackson said:
“I mean technically it's a tear off the bone, because you tear the ligament away from the bone. So that's why some people say it's a tear, but the ligament itself is intact. It's just pulled away from the bone a little bit. . . It's something that I've done
before, so I knew what they were talking about when they said it."
Jackson has already missed three games this season. He was unable to play in Week 2 and 3 due to knee injury, while he got a concussion in Week 10 and remained absent in Week 11.
Jackson has put up his career-lowest 437 rushing yards this season after leading the team in previous three seasons. Jackson is currently going through first season of his two-year, $9 million contract extension.
Jackson will be replaced by running back C.J. Spiller who is leading the team with 944 rushing yards this season.
