Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson out for three to four weeks – NFL News
Buffalo Bills had a bad day on the field on Sunday. Not only did they get a severe punch from the New York Jets offence, but they also lost a couple of starters of their offensive team for a considerable time.
Bills premier running back Fred Jackson is on the top of the list of injuries. He is reported to remain out of the field for at least three to four weeks, according to Bills head coach Chan Gailey, who announced the player’s absence on Monday, September
10, 2012. He said:
“Fred is going to be a few weeks. It is not going to be three but I do not think it is going to be eight. It is probably somewhere in there in between. Hopefully sooner than later and the prognosis is decent.”
Jackson got his knee injured during a 48-28 loss to Jets. He went through MRI scan on Monday, but the results were unable to confirm whether he had sprained or tore his anterior collateral ligament (ACL) or medial collateral ligament (MCL).
Jackson currently has a lot of swelling on his knee, and it will take around seven to ten days to completely diagnose the nature of the injury.
It is a big blow for Bills, who also lost their top wide receiver David Nelson for the entire season.
Gailey said that the team is concerned about lack of availability of starters at various offensive positions. Bills are hoping that new players will utilise the opportunity and step up to the occasion. The coach went on and said:
“It is a setback and you have to get some other people up and going. That is just part of it. I feel like we have some other players who can come in and play, but not to the level of these guys yet. Obviously C.J. was going to play a lot anyways so that
was not an issue.”
Running back C.J. Spiller will replace Jackson, as he did during the game on Sunday. Gailey previously said throughout the preseason that he would play both Jackson and Spiller in a rotation system.
Jackson is in his sixth season in the league. He was phenomenal for Bills last season, scoring six touchdowns and covering 934 yards.
