Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd likely to play in Week 3 game against Cleveland Browns – NFL News
Buffalo Bills will likely play their safety Jairus Byrd on Sunday as they face Cleveland Browns in Week 3 game.
Byrd has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with soreness in his right ankle, but Bills head coach Chan Gailey indicated in a post-practice news conference on Friday that Byrd would hopefully take part in the game. Gailey said:
“That’s been great. Boy when it was Tuesday and Wednesday, I wasn’t sure he was going to be able to make it, but he’s come back strong. It’s worked out well.”
The safety himself believes he will be able to fully recover before the game. Talking to Buffalo News, Byrd said:
“I’m encouraged by it, [It’s feeling] definitely better. The trainers have done a great job helping me, so hats off to them.”
Byrd participated in Bills full practice on Friday after missing the sessions throughout the first four days of the week.
Even with the injury, Byrd took part in Bills’ Week 2 35-17 victory against Kansas City Chiefs. It will be a big boost for Bills who have lost their last eight road games.
Apart from Byrd, linebacker Nick Barnett returned to participate in the practice session and is likely to play in the game.
Bills are currently very thin at wide receiver after respective injuries to Fred Jackson and Ruvell Martin.
Cornerback Leodis McKelvin and Justin Rogers will have a bigger role to play on Sunday in absence of Martin. Talking about the situation, Gailey said:
“Leodis has been out there anyway and Justin has been out there a few times. We’ve had a couple other guys that we’re going to look at to possibly get some reps out there, but those will be the main too.”
Byrd has been an influential player in the Bills defence and will be able to strengthen the secondary.
He was drafted by Bills in the second round (42nd overall pick) of the 2009 draft. Last season, he started in all the games and got 75 tackles, one sack and three forced fumbles.
