Buffalo Bills season analysis till Week 15 – NFL Special Part 3
This is the third part of our series of season analysis of the Buffalo Bills. In this edition, we will analyse the games that have been played in Week 9 to 12 of the regular season.
The team came into Week 9 after having a bye week in Week 8. At the end of first half of the season, Bills were standing with a 3-4 record.
Most of the teams were able to plan out in which areas they needed to focus so they could play well.
The same was the case for Bills who were struggling to find consistency in the defence, while the offence was facing a challenge of reducing the number of turnovers.
The areas of the game where Bills were looking dangerous was the running game as both running back Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller had stepped up their game in order to get maximum number of snaps.
Week 9: Houston Texans
The mighty Houston Texans proved too much for the Bills meagre offence as the team failed to put double-digit score.
Texans got a dominating 21-9 victory, thanks to strong performance by their reliable defence.
Meanwhile, Bills defence remained an unreliable force as they went on to be ranked last in the league for rushing defence after the end of this game.
Texans running back Arian Foster ended up with 111 rushing yards. Texans passing game also looked comfortable against former Bills defensive end Mario Williams who faced his former team for the first time.
Williams finished the game with one sack and total of just five tackles as Texans quarterback Matt Schaub threw two touchdowns.
Week 10: New England Patriots
Bills faced the in-form New England Patriots for the second time this season and ended up as the losing side again in Week 10 with a 31-37 defeat.
Fitzpatrick showed signs of progress as he covered 337 passing yards with an average of 8.4 yards per throw and threw two touchdown passes.
Jackson returned to form as he carried the ball 16 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Spiller managed to get just nine snaps and looked frustrated for lack of playing time.
Brady got two touchdowns in the game and averaged 6.2 yards per throw.
Week 11: Miami Dolphins
After three consecutive defeats, Bills finally managed to get a taste of victory as they defeated their division opponents Miami Dolphins by 19-14.
Bills defence produced one its most convincing performances of the season led by high-flying Williams.
The defence managed to keep Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill under guard as the player put up a mere 184 passing yards in the game.
Safety Jairus Byrd recovered a fumble and then returned it to the end zone to score a touchdown.
Week 12: Indianapolis Colts
Another down trodden performance by Bills offence led the way for Colts to beat the Bills by 20-13 in Week 12.
The offence failed to score a touchdown until the final quarter. Meanwhile the defensive team was unable to stop the number one overall pick of this yeas draft, quarterback Andrew Luck, from scoring a touchdown. He finished the game with a staggering 20
of 37 for 240 yards and a score.
Fitzpatrick got a quarterback rating of 16.3 in the game as he completed 17 out of 33 passes for 180 yards and also threw an interception.
