Buffalo Bills strengthen their offensive line, sign veteran guard Reggie Wells – NFL News
Looking very thin in the offensive line due to injuries, Buffalo Bills have acquired reinforcements as they signed veteran guard Reggie Wells on Tuesday, October 09, 2012.
Many of Bills’ players in the offensive line are out with long-term injuries.
The situation has changed in the offence so drastically that Bills head coach Chan Gailey believes they are now very weak in the part of the offensive game where they looked the strongest. Gailey said:
“I hate to use a drastic word, but we’re depleted there for sure. That was one of the strengths we felt like going into the season. Right now we have three guys that are out and we’ll see about Rinehart that’ll be the fourth guy out. So we’ll have to mix
and match and do the best we can there.”
Wells is a desperate roster addition as Bills had to put offensive linebacker Colin Brown on injured reserve to make the roster space. He got a hamstring injury during Bills’ 45-3 loss to San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, October 07.
Apart from Brown, offensive tackle Cordy Glenn and guard Kraig Urbik are also unavailable for the next game against Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Guard Chad Rinehart is also doubtful for the tie in which Bills will face a strong defensive team that is currently rated fifth best in the league with respect to points allowed.
Bills must now have to work with what they have available. It will be difficult for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to adjust with the new players in the offensive team with season almost reaching its midpoint. Talking about this situation, Fitzpatrick said:
“We’re banged up. That’s something that I don’t want to say we have to overcome, but guys have to step in. I think there are a lot of unknowns there right now. That’s just something we’ll have to deal with.”
Wells, 31, has played 10 seasons in the league. He has a massive physique with 6’4” and 320 pounds. He was drafted by Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round (177th overall pick) in the 2003 draft. He played six seasons with Cardinals.
