Buffalo Bills sign Cordy Glenn, only one rookie left -NFL News
The Buffalo Bills are almost done with the signing of their rookie players, who have been picked up in this year’s draft, held from April 26 to 28, 2012.
As of the latest, the management has landed a deal to offensive tackle, Cordy Glenn, and this leaves only one of the nine draft picks unsigned yet.
Terms of the deal signed with Glenn have not been disclosed by any of the concerned stakeholders, while the player who is yet to be given a contract is receiver, T.J. Graham, who is a third-round selection by Bills.
Glenn was signed on Friday, May 18, a day after the team had agreed to terms with cornerback, Stephon Gilmore, the first-round pick.
Bills are another team to have signed the rookie players so swiftly as has been done by some other teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals, who historically are known for the delays in signing rookie contracts.
The change, which is a very welcome one for the draft players, has come about since the professional football league regulator, National Football League (NFL), introduced rules of rookie salary cap in the players’ collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
Having done with their contracts at earliest possible, the draft players have the space and time to take part in the teams’ workout activities and focus their energies on their fitness and game without any worries.
Meanwhile, the field is quite wide open in front of Glenn to win the starting role as Bills have lost their experienced offensive tackle, Demetress Bell, off the free agency this year.
With the prevalent OT situation, Glenn remains to be the key player in their scheme for the position and if he is able to capitalise on the opportunity by performing well, the team might entrust him the role permanently.
Here the college league’s experience can contribute to overall success of the player.
Glenn, who is coming out of Georgia, had started in 50 out of 53 games he played for Bulldogs. He was picked with the 41st position overall.
Measuring 6-foot-6 and weighing 345 pounds, Glenn was successful in his most of starts in the college league and there is a great anticipation among the Bills that he will achieve an equal amount of success in the professional league.
