Buffalo Bills thrash Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13 for 34-18 victory – NFL Recap
After an exquisite performance by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills completely wiped out Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13 tie on Sunday December 02, 2012, at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo, New York.
This win retains the slim chances Bills (5-7) have of qualifying for the playoffs. It was an astounding performance by Fitzpatrick that led to one of the most comprehensive victories of the season by Bills.
Meanwhile, Jaguars (2-10) returned to losing ways as it has been the case for the rest of the season. The team failed to continue their winning form after winning Week 12 game.
Despite being a contest between two struggling teams, Fitzpatrick made it look quite easy. According to the Associated Press, Fitzpatrick said:
"We have a lot of belief in our locker room, and we are not in the most ideal situation. But we lose today's game, and we know we're out of it. We felt like this was one we should win, and needed to win."
Fitzpatrick finished the game with 9 of 17 for 112 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for another touchdown.
The offence started the game without top wide receiver Donald Jones and things became particularly difficult after star wide receiver Stevie Johnson was forced out due to hamstring injury.
In such difficult circumstances, the running game came up with goods as running back C.J. Spiller scored a touchdown and Fred Jackson rushed for 109 yards.
On the other hand, Jaguars offence went down again after putting up good performance in previous two ties. Talking about the team’s performance, tight end Marcedes Lewis said:
“It’s more frustrating because we lost. This is the NFL. Things are going to be back and forth. It’s frustrating to lose. No one likes losing, but at the same time, we did things today we can’t have. We can’t beat ourselves. Not to take anything away from
them. They played better than we did, but we did things to hurt ourselves.”
Quarterback Chad Henne completed just 18 out of 41 passes for 208 yards and fumbled the ball during the game.
The game remained cagey in the first quarter until Fitzpatrick got a one-yard run to put the Bills ahead and finished the first quarter 7-0.
Jaguars made a comeback in the second quarter with a field goal and a rushing touchdown by Henne to push the score to 10-7.
Bills regained the lead in the final two minutes of the first half with a touchdown and a field goal to end the second quarter at 17-10.
Third quarter saw Bills offence continuing their blistering run with Fitzpatrick getting his third touchdown of the day which was followed by a field goal to take the score to 27-10.
In the final quarter, Bills took the game away from Jaguars as Spiller ran 44 yards to score a touchdown as the score went 34-10.
Jaguars did manage to score a touchdown later on, but it was not enough to stop Bills from winning the game by 34-18.
