Buffalo Bills vs New York Jets – Sunday Week 12: NFL Preview
The Buffalo Bills will be looking forward to avoid a fourth straight defeat when they face the New York Jets this Sunday. An injury prone Bills also face the possibility of a second defeat at the hands of Jets in three weeks.
The Bills were no match for the Jets in week 9 when they succumbed 21-11. To make matter worst for them, the Bills will have to contend without their leading running back, Fred Jackson. Jackson has sustained a right leg injury
with a bone broken and has been ruled out for the season. Jackson with 934 yards and six touchdowns this season was a match winner for the Bills. So challenges for the Bills have increased. They have fared poorly in their last three consecutive defeats being
outscored 106-26.
Bills will now be relying on C.J Spiller to do the needful. One loss could see them done for the season. Spiller has 115 yards with a touchdown this season and would need to step up now to handle the matters in the absence of Jackson.
Buffalo Coach Chan Gailey said, "My feeling is that if you've got a team that is that fragile, you're in trouble. I believe we have guys that understand about fighting through tough times and fighting through adversity.”
The Bills had won their won four of their first five games with an average of 32.8 points but that average fell to around 14 points in the last five games.
"We're trying to figure out some answers, and looking to see some results," Bills Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said.
The Buffalo would need a repeat of Fitzpatrick’s 2010 performance when he managed 3000 yards with 23 touchdowns. Fitzpatrick has scored 16 touchdowns so far this season but in the last six games he has had 11 interceptions. So
this is where he would need to work at.
As for receiver Stevie Johnson, he has managed 547 yards with 4 touchdowns this season.
For the Jets, it is a last desperate attempt as well. They have lost last two games in less than a week to New England 37-16 and Denver 17-13.
Mark Sanchez needs to play his role in getting the Jets a victory which they so desperately need it. Sanchez has managed 2,333 yards with 14 touchdowns this season, a good performance but which also included 10 interceptions. Sanchez
had completed 20 of 28 passes with 230 yards and a touchdown when he faced Buffalo in week 9.
The Jets performed well against the Bills in their last encounter. Johnson was restricted to 82 yards and Fitzpatrick was intercepted twice as they cruised to a 27-11 victory. But this time the Bills will surely come up bent on
revenge. However they will face a team equally eager for a victory as Jets safety Jim Leonhard put up.
“I think everyone kind of feels like it's now or never," Leonhard said. "We have to play well, and we have to play well now."
The good news for Jets is that their running back Shonn Greene is a probable for Sunday’s game after a rib injury sustained at Denver. But they miss out LaDainian Tomlinson who is nursing a knee injury.
