Buffalo Bills wide receiver Donald Jones having a breakout 2012 season – NFL News
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Donald Jones has been a revelation this season as he has kept the receiving corps pumping with fast speed along with making his mark for the first time at the professional stage.
Jones is in his third season in the National Football League (NFL). In the first two seasons, he failed to perform well as he got limited playing time due to nagging injuries.
This season, Jones is currently tied at the top spot with wide receiver Stevie Johnson for the highest number touchdowns scored by a Bills receiver. Talking about Jones’ performance this season, head coach Chan Gailey said:
“Donald is starting to emerge as another weapon for us. So you get Stevie and Donald and Scott (Chandler) and we’re starting to develop some diversity where they can’t just look at one thing and stop one thing which is where we need to be.”
In his rookie season, Jones failed to put up a good impression as he received 18 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown in 15 games.
The wide receiver had an even worse 2011 season as he remained out most of the time due to an ankle injury and played just eight games, getting 23 receptions for 231 yards and a touchdown.
This time it has been a completely different ball game as Jones is already standing with career-best stats of 32 receptions for 380 yards and four touchdowns. The player himself is happy with the way things have gone. Jones said:
“I am getting stronger every week. I am just learning every week what they are doing and playing inside is just fun to me. I am having fun right now. I’ve been saying all year, we as a receiving corps, we don’t feel like anyone can stop us on the outside.”
Jones got off to a slow start to the proceedings this season, but has picked up the gas in the last three games where he received 13 passes for a massive 265 yards and two touchdowns.
Bills are now 3-6 and certainly have to re-evaluate their current roster and outline a strategy for the next season. Meanwhile, Jones continues to give breakout performances.
