Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson wants quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to call play – NFL News
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson has come out and taken a shot at head coach Chan Gailey after the team’s miserable 13-20 loss against Indianapolis Colts in Week 12. Johnson has demanded the coach to step down from his play-calling duties.
During the postgame interview with Buffalo News, Johnson insisted that Bills should seriously consider giving the play-calling responsibility to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. In that interview, Johnson said:
"How I see it, I think we need to let our quarterback call these plays. He's out there on the field. He sees the adjustments that need to be done. I think we just need to let him make adjustments on the go. I think that's the way we can move the ball better.”
The comments come after another disappointing performance by Fitzpatrick and the rest of the offence as they failed to capitalise on the given opportunities. Bills are now 4-7 and are almost out of the postseason race.
Johnson also talked about how running back C.J. Spiller was given the snaps more often by Fitzpatrick that led to running back putting up good performance.
When Spiller was asked about his stance on the issue of Gailey calling the plays, the running back denied commenting. Spiller said:
"I'm not going to comment on that. I have no comment. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion. I'm not going to even get into 'Coach Gailey is calling the wrong plays.' Coach Gailey has done this for a long time. He's been in the business for a long time.”
Before getting a touchdown in the final quarter of the game on Sunday, Bills had spent seven quarters without reaching the end zone. Bills looked much more effective down the field during the game.
Gailey has been getting a barrage of criticism of late for not utilising in-form Spiller effectively and for limiting him to fewer plays.
