Buffalo Bob breaks jinx by winning Handicap Chase – Horseracing Update
Kim Bailey’s veteran gelding, Buffalo Bob, broke his long failure jinx by notching up the top spot in Play Casino At Betvictor.Com Handicap Chase on Tuesday, February 14 at Ayr.
On the chilly Valentine’s Day, the nine-year-old runner beat his six worthy rivals to cross 17 fences successfully in Class 2 contest of 2m4f distance.
Held at 3:25, the competition gave an opportunity to Buffalo Bob to bag a victory since November 2010.
Bailey was greatly pleased at the outstanding performance of his trainee, terming the triumph as a result of good fortune. He also anticipated a promising future for the experienced gelding.
However, he was not sure where Buffalo Bob will take on his next challenge. But he was convinced that the victor can perform well at any venue.
While speaking to the media last night, Bailey said, “I don't mind a bit of luck from time to time. He's been a bit fortunate, but I think he deserved to win a race and it was a nice prize to win. I actually think he might be better running back over two
miles, but I'm not sure where he'll go next."
Making his debut in January 2008, the GFH Partnership-owned gelding has won just four races out of his total 28 starts so far. All the four victories fall in Chase category.
Buffalo Bob has failed badly in NHF, Hurdle and PTP categories to date. Overall, his success ratio has been somewhat pathetic. Despite this, the bookmarkers allotted him a 2-1 favourite tag ahead of yesterday’s competition.
Suddenly overcoming his lean patch, the black gelding delivered a big run to come up to the expectations of the bookies.
Among other six runners, Categorical finished second while Pentiffic grabbed the third top position.
Both Charingworth and Best Lover had unseated rider by 2 and 6 out respectively while Diamond Frontier and Dinarius got pulled up each.
As a whole, it was a thrilling battle. All the horses unleashed enough firepower but Buffalo Bob was destined to win.
It is hoped that this victory will prove to be a morale booster for him. If he manages to carry forward this momentum, he will have good time during rest of the calendar year.
