Buffalo Sabres' Ryan Miller blocks all 34, shutting out Montreal Canadiens 3-0 -NHL Update
Buffalo got back into the playoff race as Ryan Miller blocked all 34 shots on his net as Sabres shutout Montreal Canadiens, 3-0, Wednesday night, March 21, 2012, at the sold-out First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York.
Montreal tried hard at firing the puck past Ryan Miller but the veteran goalie was just too focused in the net for a perfect performance.
Sabres are now tied with eighth place Washington Capitals for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With two wins straight, Buffalo is now on a roll to get that position and hopefully, after a long hard working season, the Sabres may live up
to expectations.
"We've put together a good run to be where we're at," Sabres coach, Lindy Ruff, said. "There's a tough schedule ahead of us, but it's rewarding to get us as close as we've gotten right now."
"I'm not going to say I'm not happy, but it is a stop along the way," Miller said, following his 28th career shutout. "I'm trying not to be satisfied. We've got a lot of hockey left to play."
Cody Hodgson added his first of the night and 17th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season at the 6:15 mark of the opener. Hodgson was tipped off by Christian Ehrhoff and found the narrow opportunity on Carey Price’s right
side to get the puck past him.
Jason Pominville extended the lead for his 28th of the year on the rebound after Ville Leino failed to get it past Price as Buffalo and Montreal scrambled for the puck in front of the goalie.
Cody Hodgson insured the match with his second of the contest on a power play as Derek Roy found the player on a blind pass from Price’s left side, firing it past the goalie for a 3-0 shutout.
Buffalo Sabres have gained some momentum and will have to put it to full use against New York Rangers on Friday.
Montreal Canadiens have not won a single match in the past three and do not look to be going in on the same day against Ottawa Senators wanting to turn it around.
