Buffalo Sabres Rob Niedermayer out for two weeks
Buffalo Sabres forward Rob Niedermayer will be out for up to two weeks after undergoing minor knee surgery on an injury which has been bothering him since the start of the year.
Niedermayer received the surgery on Monday 22 November. The procedure was performed to remove fluid, which had built up on his right knee, something the veteran has been struggling with since the pre-season, according to head coach Lindy Ruff.
“I think you’ve got to give him credit for trying to get through it. But he just feels it was hurting his play,” Ruff told the Associated Press. “So the best thing to do was to have it cleaned up.”
Niedermayer has been a productive third line checker for the Sabres this season. Signed over the summer, the 35-year-old was brought in because of his abilities on the defensive side of the puck, and while he has not been tremendous offensively, the British
Columbia native has lived up to his billing.
The Sabres have been struggling with injuries throughout the season, losing Jason Pominville early to a concussion and missing starting goaltender Ryan Miller for six games because of a hip injury. Unfortunately, it has not gotten any easier for Buffalo,
as Miller left the clubs game on 19 November with a groin problem and did not practice on Monday after only four games back in the line-up.
Moreover, centre Tim Connolly left in the middle of practice also because of a groin injury. Meanwhile, forward Drew Stafford has resumed practicing, but is not expected to be back in the line-up this week and has already missed eight games with an upper
body injury.
The Sabres currently sit in fourth place in the Northeast Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference with 19 points.
So far this season Niedermayer has managed zero goals and six assists.
