Buffalo Sabres continue winning streak by defeating Los Angeles Kings 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Buffalo’s 21-year-old rookie left winger, Luke Adam, potted two goals to lift Sabres to their second straight victory of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season over Los Angeles Kings, 4-2, on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the O2 World
Arena in Berlin, East Germany.
14,000 plus foreign ice hockey fans showed up to witness the final matchup of the 2011 NHL Compuware Premier Series which lasted over the preseason and two contests into the regular season in Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany.
"I thought the crowd was great tonight and we have had great support while we have been over here", said Buffalo Sabres goalie, Ryan Miller, who made 31 saves. "We had Christian and Thomas, who are popular players here. It was nice to have the crowd behind
us. When you are tired, every little bit of energy helps. At that point, it was a huge boost".
After a scoreless first period as both teams managed to skill off a single penalty, Buffalo Sabres came out strong in the second and scored three straight goals.
Luke Adam scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second period, followed by Paul Gaustad’s first of the season to put Buffalo ahead, 3-0, at the 13:19 mark.
Anze Kopitar scored with less than a minute remaining of regulation on their second power play opportunity to put Los Angeles Kings on the scoreboard.
For Adam, having the crowd on their side was certainly a motivating factor in him scoring his first two goals.
"For the crowd to be on our side chanting like that is pretty neat", Luke said. "It's pretty neat that this is my first two-goal night in the NHL”.
Drew Stafford scored on an added man advantage of their own as Lon Angeles lost Kevin Westgarth for two minutes due to cross checking.
With less than 16 minutes remaining in the final period, LA scrambled to make a comeback but it was Kopitar’s second of the night at the 15:46 mark to lessen the gap, 4-2, as both teams were unable to score after that.
Both teams will have a few days to rest before their next matchups as Buffalo Sabres will return home to face Carolina Hurricanes on Friday, October 14, while Los Angeles Kings travel to New Jersey to face-off against Devils a day earlier.
