Buffalo Sabres deny Pittsburgh Penguins 16th straight win 4-1 - NHL Update
All good things must come to an end sooner or later and for the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was going up against the rowdy Buffalo Sabres. Pittsburgh was looking for its 16th straight win and extending what they seem to have had a perfect month in
the first game of April, but were easily downed back to zero as Buffalo denied it to the Penguins with a 4-1 victory.
It was an intense matchup between the two teams at the Consol Energy Center on Tuesday as the Sabres limited Pittsburgh to just 20 shots in 60 minutes, while Ryan Miller performed at full capacity by blocking 19 of those and did not even break a sweat. Tomas
Vokoun was taken out of the matchup after failing to save four shots on 13 attempts while Marc Andre Fleury came out to save them from further embarrassment by remaining perfect on another 16 shots.
"I think tonight you can say we played a full game," said Miller, according to NHL.com. "It was very nice to see and I'm extremely proud of the guys and hopefully this is something we can carry forward, keep in our pocket and know that we can play a solid
game."
Kevin Porter kicked off his scoring stats with his first two of the season on three attempts as well.
It was former Calgary Flames’ captain, Jarome Iginla’s second game with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being traded and scored for the first time, making it their only goal of the entire matchup, but he definitely was not pleased at the outcome.
"It's a disappointing feeling now," Iginla said. "I know the guys have worked so hard at this streak, and it was fun to come and get a taste of that. It was really impressive what they accomplished and it's tough to see that end.”
Pittsburgh still stands on top of the Easter Conference with 56 points and a comfortable five-point lead above the surging Montreal Canadiens. Buffalo on the other hand must work harder to get back into the playoffs elite eight as they stand at number 12
with just 34 points and are tied with 11th place Carolina Hurricanes.
