Buffalo Sabres destroy the Atlanta Thrashers 8-2 – NHL Recap

The Buffalo Sabres comprehensively beat the Atlanta Thrashers 8-2 at the HSBC Arena on Saturday. Both the teams are close in the running for the National Hockey League play-offs with the Sabres occupying the final position in the Eastern
Conference, while the Thrashers were hoping to win and score crucial points and strengthen their chances of making it into the play-offs.
The Sabres exploded at the start and scored in the very first minute to get into the lead. The Thrashers scored the equalizing goal, but the Sabres had a lot of power in their offence which saw them scoring twice during the course
of the period to lead 3-1. The Thrashers scored the opening goal in the second period, but it was the Sabres who scored twice to lead 5-2. The final period saw the Sabres laying the hammer down and scoring three more goals to win the game 8-2. Sabres’ winger
Mark Mancari was named the Star of the Game for his goal and two assists.
The Sabres managed to score in the very first minute through Jason Pominville from a decent start, as the Thrashers managed to come up with some decent plays that saw them scoring in the in the ninth minute through Chris Thorburn.
The Sabres were the more productive of the two teams and they scored in the 12th minute through Mark Mancari during the power-play to get into the lead. They scored once again in the 16th minute through Rob Niedermayer
from a simple tip-in shot. The period ended with the Sabres leading 3-1. During the first period, the Sabres made 11 shots on goal, while the Thrashers managed 9 attempts.
The second period saw the Thrashers making a decent start and scoring in the fifth minute through Alexander Burmistrov from a decent strike. The Sabres managed to score in the 12th minute through Nathan Gerbe and then through
Tyler Ennis from a brilliant flick-shot.
The period saw both teams coming up with decent plays and more shots, but no further goals were scored. The period ended with the Sabres leading 5-2, as they made 8 goal attempts and the Thrashers managed 12.
The final period the Sabres scored three goals to win the game. The first goal was scored in fourth minute through Brad Boyes and then through Rob Niedermayer from a back-hand shot. The Sabres scored once again in the 18th
minute through Tim Connolly to win the game 8-2 in the end.
