Buffalo Sabres end Devils hopes of play-offs with a 2-0 win
Another one of Saturday’s games was hosted by Buffalo Sabres as they won the game at the HSBC Arena 2-0 against the New Jersey Devils. Sabres occupy the final play-off spot in the Eastern Conference and needed the win to ensure themselves a place in the
cut while for the Devils, a win was must if they wanted to keep hopes of a play-off spot alive.
The game started off with Sabres dominating the play at the start of the game and it was able to score twice during the course of the first period to get into a 2-0 lead.
Devils made a few shots on goal but they were unable to score.
The second period saw both teams coming up with some decent plays but no goals were scored.
Devils was the stronger of the two teams in the final period but still no goals were scored as the Sabres won the game 2-0 in the end.
Ryan Miller, goal keeper of Sabres, was named the star of the game as he made 30 saves during the course of the game.
Sabres was on a mission that was to score and get into the lead as early as possible. They certainly were up to the task as they scored in the fifth minute through Nathan Gerbe from a well placed flick shot to get into the lead.
Sabres dominated the first half of the period in terms of offence and defence.
Though the second half saw their defence a little vulnerable but still they scored once again in the 17th minute to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Thomas Vanek from a well placed flick shot as the period ended with the Sabres leading 2-0.
Though the Devils came up with a few scoring chances of their own but they were unable to score any goals. During the period, the Sabres made 16 shots on goal while the Devils made 9 shots on goal.
The second period saw both teams starting off on the slower side as they were determined not to give away any goals. There were fewer shots on goal but the play construction got better.
The brilliant in the department of offence continued right till the end of the period but none of the several shots fired towards the goal by both teams resulted in goals. The period saw the Devils making 10 goal attempts while the Sabres made seven shots
on goal but it was the Sabres who led 2-0.
The final 20 minutes of play were dominated by the Devils in terms of shots on goal as they made 11 shots on goal compared to the five by the Sabres. Unfortunately, there were no goals in the final period too as the game ended with the Sabres winning the
game 2-0 in the end.
