Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller out with concussion, no date set for return -NHL News Update
Buffalo’s veteran goalie, Ryan Miller, is reported to have sustained a concussion after being hit by Boston Bruins enforcer, Milan Lucic, during their matchup on Saturday, November 12, 2011, and is said to be out indefinitely at the moment with no final
date set for his return.
Lucic ran into Miller during a breakaway opportunity he got during the first period, which caused both players to fall on each other and Sabres head coach, Lindy Ruff, said that the veteran goalkeeper had a sore neck after the incident took place but no
immediate symptoms could be seen.
Recognising the power and force of Lucic, Miller termed it to be very surprising he would do something like that.
Lucic has "50 pounds on me and he runs me like that? It's unbelievable", Miller said. "Everyone in this city sees him as a big tough solid player. I respected him for how hard he played. That was gutless".
In order to take Miller’s place on the team as their lead goalie, the Buffalo Sabres will be most likely using backup goalkeeper, Jhonas Enroth, and in order to assist him as a replacement until Miller makes his return, Drew McIntyre, has been recalled from
their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate farm club, Rochester.
Buffalo Sabres general manager, Darcy Regier, expressed his views on the hit, which gave Lucic only a minor penalty, terming it not only one that deserved a major but also a look into the National Hockey League (NHL) disciplinarian for a suspension.
"If this hit and other types of hits like this are not suspended, we are opening up the possibility of losing goaltenders to injury", Regier told the Buffalo News. "And not just injury, but concussion. “ When I look at the position of goaltending, in a lot
of ways it's not unlike quarterback in football”.
The 31-year-old’s absence will certainly have an impact on the Buffalo team, which is all set to make a huge impact on the league this season by going deep into the postseason next year. Not having him on the team will call for Enroth to put forward everything
he has so they continue wining games and maintain a good record.
