Buffalo Sabres hand down Anaheim Ducks second straight loss with 2-0 shutout -NHL Update
Anaheim was not looking to lose their second straight game and definitely not a shutout but Buffalo had no plans on going easy on the struggling Ducks as Sabres won, 2-0, on Wednesday night, February 29, 2012, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Facing 43 shots is never easy but keeping his cool and focusing on every attempt was what kept Ryan Miller going in the Buffalo Sabres net, blocking all the pucks that came his way.
"I felt pretty good," Miller said. "I've been trying to really be calm in the net and start from in the crease. It helps that we have a lot of great back pressure. Our D is able to stand some guys up. I don't feel I have to challenge the rush plays too much.
When I do have to step up and attack, it's more one option that I have to commit to."
Buffalo improved as they won their fourth match in the past five but still have a long way to go as Sabres sit at number 12 in the Eastern Conference with 64 points while Anaheim is at 13 in the West.
Both teams are struggling but giving it their best, something that will be decided in the final games.
"It's definitely frustrating, seeing the guys trying and trying and not getting anywhere," Anaheim goalies, Jonas Hiller, said. "It's tough (to watch) back there, but if we play like that every night, we always have a chance to win."
Derek Roy got the first goal of the night on a power play advantage while Brad Boyes added the final of the match for his fourth of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season midway through the second.
Round-three of regulation was filled with penalties as both teams had their reasons to let out some frustration. Over 70 minutes of penalties were given in the final period alone that included a number of fights, roughing and game misconducts, that too in
the final minutes.
Buffalo has some tough competition going into Thursday’s matchup against San Jose Sharks while Anaheim stays at home to face an equally struggling club, Calgary Flames, on Friday.
