Buffalo Sabres host the St. Louis Blues in an inter-Conference clash
The Buffalo Sabres will be hosting the St. Louis Blues in the one and only meeting of the teams on Friday.
The last time these two met was during the last season on the 27th of December 2009. The game saw the Sabres come up with an absolute gem of a performance and win the game 5-3 in the end.
The Sabres had a disappointing start to the season which saw their chances of a play-off spot relinquish. However, they have been able to pile up some decent results recently which have resulted in them being in the ninth position. They trial the final play-off
spot in the Eastern Conference by just two points. The Sabres had a chance to get into the cut when they faced the Toronto Maple Leafs this past Wednesday. However, they weren’t successful in doing so as they lost the game 2-1 in the end.
On the other hand, St. Louis Blues made a great start to the season coming up with regular wins which placed them alongside the best in the league. However, they weren’t able to carry on with the momentum and have been continuously falling down the table.
If the Blues want to make it into the play-offs then they need to step up their game and win games regularly.
The Sabres would be really grieved to say the least after their loss to the Maple Leafs due to the fact that it was the first of six home games for them. Playing home gives the teams advantage to notch up points. However, they would give it their best and
make up for the lost performance. They would have the extra bit to come up with a win against the Blues as this is only time they face each other.
The Sabres kept the points difference same due to the fact that Hurricanes also lost their game against the New Jersey Devils. "Tonight was a tough one for us," goalie Ryan Miller said. "They played a little bit of a smarter game than we've seen from them
in the past."
The Sabres have played 56 games in the season out of which they have come up with 27 regulation time wins, 6 overtime wins and scored 60 points.
On the other hand, the Blues have played 55 games out which they have 25 games in regulation time, nine games in overtime and scored 60 points.
The Blue have come up with good results recently notching up at least a point in five of their last six games. Unfortunately, they have a difficult mountain to climb which sees them nine points behind the final play-off position in the Western Conference.
Things are going to become all the more difficult now that they goal keeper, Jaroslav Halak is injured.
"I think the desperation was there," Blues coach Davis Payne winning 3-2 win against league leaders, Vancouver Canucks. "It was five guys going over the boards, making sure they made the right plays. A big step for our club."
The game will be very exciting and full of goals as both teams look for a regulation time win to make their way into the play-offs.
