Buffalo Sabres lose veteran defenseman Christian Ehrhoff to knee-injury at crucial time -NHL Update
It could not have come at a more crucial time for the Buffalo Sabres as they lost veteran defenseman, Christian Ehrhoff, to a knee-injury with latest reports terming the player to be out indefinitely with no set date for a comeback.
Ehrhoff left the game against Washington Capitals on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, as Buffalo secured their fifth straight victory.
“I think last game was a big statement game for us,” Defenseman, Tyler Myers, said. “But in saying that, we don’t want to focus on it too much. We want to look ahead and make sure we win our next five here.”
The incident occurred during the first period of the contest as Ehrhoff’s knee collided with the knee of Capitals forward, Troy Brouwer. He was diagnosed with an apparent injury and did not make a comeback.
Being evaluated the next day, it turns out that the 29-year-old defenseman will not be making a comeback anytime during the remaining part of the season, but the management has not officially disclosed it yet.
Looking at it positively, it is better than multiple injuries at one time like earlier in the season when Buffalo lost defenseman Robyn Regehr and center Tyler Ennis. This is not the first time Ehrhoff will be missing either. He went out earlier due to a
rib injury and missed 11 straight games, which could be seen by how the team was performing with various players out at the same time.
"I think dealing with one injury is maybe better than what we had to deal with in the past," said Buffalo Sabres head coach, Lindy Ruff. "We have to deal with it. We have to face a little adversity, and we need players to step up."
Buffalo Sabres have five games remaining on their 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season schedule and Ehrhoff will most likely not be a part of them.
It is also not clear as of yet whether he will be with Buffalo if they manage to hold on to a playoff spot till the end.
Christian Ehrhoff, a native of Moers, Germany, is currently in his eighth major league season and first with Buffalo Sabres. He has 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists) in 66 games played up until now with his new team.
