Buffalo Sabres play host to New York Rangers in the fourth and final meeting between the two this season
The first game of Wednesday will be played at the HSBC Arena as Buffalo Sabres play host to New York Rangers. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two teams during the course of the season.
Out of the three meetings that have taken place between the two teams, Rangers won the first two but Sabres won the last.
The last game between the two teams took place on the 1st of March which Sabres won by 3-2 in the end.
Rangers and Sabres are at the seventh and eighth place in the Eastern Conference and need the win if they want to get away from the teams that are close to them and trying hard to stop their way into the playoff’s cut.
Rangers is on quite a roll as it has come up with some dominating ice hockey that has seen it scoring 17 out of a possible 20 points in the last 10 games.
Some might argue that Rangers is not having offensive problems as it has scored a goal in each of the games out of which it has won two games and lost one game in a shootout, the games were played against Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins.
Rangers’ goalkeeper, Henrik Lundqvist, has been in decent form over the past few games and earned quite a few star-of-the-game awards due to the strong performances that he has bagged.
"He's going to have to be like that for us if we're going to continue", Rangers’ coach, John Tortorella, said. "He has stepped up his play when we needed him".
Rangers has played 76 games during the course of the season out of which it has won 41 games during regulation time and five games in overtime to score a total of 87 points.
Sabres has played 76 games during the season out of which it has won 38 games in regulation time and nine games in overtime to score a total of 85 points.
Sabres was in a position to clinch the seventh spot in the league as it was up against Toronto Maple Leafs. However, it lost the game by 4-3 in the end to suffer its first loss in as many as six games.
Sabres’ goalie, Ryan Miller, was in good form as he piled up three consecutive wins but his last game was disappointing as he allowed three goals within 34 minutes of play.
"I had a chance to set the tone on my end and didn't do it", Miller said of his performance in Toronto. "It just kind of went from there".
Both teams have an equal chance of winning the game and the game will be interesting.
