Buffalo Sabres prospect Luke Adam hopes to make roster after preseason performance -NHL News Update
Luke Adam, a 21-year-old Buffalo Sabres prospect, might be in his second year of his entry-level contract that he signed before the 2010-2011 season but according to him, that time has finally has come to crack a more permanent spot on the Eastern Conference
teams’ roster for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) season.
For starters, the rookie left winger is on their roster for the 2011 preseason and has been travelling with Buffalo to all their foreign matchups part of the NHL Compuware Premier Series, which gives him the opportunity to prove himself as a valuable contributor
on the team.
"My goal all summer was to be on this trip", Adam told NHL.com after Monday's practice at SAP Arena. "This is where I wanted to be and this is what I worked toward all summer".
Drafted as the 44th overall pick during round-two of the 2008 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Buffalo, Luke Adam has been slowly and gradually working hard to improve his performance.
He was given 19 games to play in the NHL last season with Buffalo but managed to pot only four points (3 goals, 1 assist) with a plus-minus rating of -6 and 12 minutes of penalty time. It was after his return to the American Hockey League (AHL) minors with
Portland Pirates that he put up some eye opening numbers by scoring 62 points (29 goals, 33 assists) in 57 matchups.
There is no doubt on his playing abilities from the Buffalo side, but since Sabres are looking for a certainly style of playing to suit their needs, Adam will have to mould himself into that player.
"I know what they want from me", Adam said. "I have to play a solid, two-way game, be sound in my own end and win my battles. I feel my game is at its best when I am skating and moving my feet and that is what I have to continue doing".
In an interview with Buffalo general manager, Lindy Ruff, he believes that Adam has improved overall and had impressed during the last few games.
Only time will tell whether Buffalo decides to keep the player or send him back to the minor leagues as Sabres kick off their first regular season matchup on Friday, October 7, against Anaheim Ducks in Helsinki, Finland.
