Buffalo Sabres ready to host Boston Bruins – National Hockey League Preview
After snapping the five-game losing streak, Buffalo Sabres has done well to win three of its last four games, but the team’s ability will certainly be put on test as it hosts Boston Bruins on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in a National Hockey League (NHL)
game at First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York.
The game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Buffalo has got a great opportunity to overcome Boston as the latter’s recent form is not commendable and has lost two out of its last three games.
Buffalo is ranked at 14th spot in the NHL Eastern Conference with 50 points after 52 games.
The last four games have been head-to-head encounters in which three were decided on shootout.
Buffalo defeated New York Islanders in the last game. After going two goals down in the first period, Sabres scored a goal each in the next two periods and sent the game to overtime, after which shootout was called.
In the shootout, Buffalo scored two goals and got the victory.
After the victory, Sabres’ goalie, Ryan Miller, became franchise’s all-time wins leader with 235 victories. He said achieving the milestone that:
“All-time Sabres winningest goalie, I am proud of that. It's exciting to come in as a young player and achieve it. It will always be a source of pride.”
Miller will try to secure another win for his team, but beating Boston is not going to be easy.
Boston is ranked second in the NHL Eastern Conference with 68 points after 51 games.
However, Bruins’ recent form is not satisfactory. It has not been consistent in terms of maintaining the winning run and has not even won two straight games since last 11 games.
Boston snapped its two-game losing streak by outclassing Washington Capitals, 4-1.
Boston scored two goals in the first period and two in the final where it gave away one.
Boston’s goalie, Tim Thomas, is of the view that the team is finally starting to find its rhythm and will beat Sabres.
He said:
"I think overall we're starting, the last couple of days, to go in the right direction and started to play the type of hockey the Boston Bruins play."
Boston clearly has an edge over Buffalo, but considering the recent forms of both the teams, Sabres also stand a good chance of winning the game.
