Buffalo Sabres ready to make it big in the 2011 NHL Free Agency –NHL offseason Update
Buffalo Sabres continues its rejuvenation process which started off with getting a new owner, a Pennsylvanian billionaire, Terry Pegula, and now has extended down to grabbing hot draft picks, trading for veteran players and making a big impact on the 2011
National Hockey League (NHL) free agency which begins on Friday, July 1st.
Buffalo's general manager, Darcy Regier, is especially excited at the work being done in the past couple of days and hopes to continue it in the future.
It was him who wanted Calgary Flames' veteran defenseman, Robyn Regehr, on his team and he made it happen.
"There's only great things to tell about Buffalo", said Darcy Regier. "Our experience is the resistance we meet upon from the outside looking at Buffalo, it is there, it's something we're focused on changing. The more important thing is the reality. The
reality is that players love playing in Buffalo, and they stay in Buffalo. That's really what is most important".
Now having a deep pocketed owner, Regier has been given the green signal to acquire the best of the best and remain active in the bidding process that works in the free agency.
Regier has his eyes set on a championship and he is working towards that.
"Anyone we sign will be because we believe they can help us win a championship here", he said.
Having a goalie like Ryan Miller and now Robyn Regehr, all that remains on the Sabres' wish list is a highly experienced centre player and by the looks of it, Brad Richards, the now former Dallas Stars' centre is up for grabs and would be a delectable choice.
Not being able to enter the playoffs for the second straight season, Terry Pegula has his eyes set on changing everything and is aiming for the top prize.
Being loaded on cash is one thing, but being as visionary as him and one of the most devoted fans the league has ever seen, gives him a pretty good chance at turning around the team that was once shy of dealing and negotiating.
