Buffalo Sabres roll to victory against Washington Capitals 5-1 -NHL Match Update
Buffalo had one thing in mind when they entered their Saturday night matchup against the Washington team, which was to win and snap their three-game losing streak, which is exactly what the Sabres did by rolling to a big, 5-1, victory over the Capitals on
November 26, 2011, at the sold-out First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, United States.
"We have a lot of guys out of the lineup, so as a call-up you just want to keep it simple, work hard every night, and do your job," Buffalo prospect, Zack Kassian, said. "You have to try and give your team a chance to win, and play your role. You're not
going out there to be a game changer."
Luke Adam kicked off the scoring with his seventh of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season at the midway mark of the opening period, followed by Jason Pominville nearly five minutes later to give the Buffalo Sabres a commanding lead entering
the second 20 minute round.
Jason Chimera finally put Washington on the scoreboard with his ninth on a breakaway opportunity unassisted, but it was washed away within another minute as Kassian scored his first ever NHL career goal to extend the lead even further.
Buffalo is unfortunately still without their main veteran goalie, Ryan Miller, who went out from a hit by Boston’s enforcer, and it is still uncertain when he will return.
"You have to play hard every night regardless if you have your full lineup or not," said Adam, who had his second two-goal game of the season and his career. "You can't afford to make mistakes, and you need everyone going every night."
Adam made his second of the night at the 1:12 mark of the third period while Jochen Hecht secured the match with his shorthanded goal with Zack Kassian out for high sticking with less than six minutes remaining to play.
Buffalo play their next game at home against the New York Islanders on Tuesday November 29, 2011, while the Washington Capitals look to bounce back after two straight losses against the St. Louis Blues the same day.
