Buffalo Sabres shock Philadelphia Flyers 1-0: Eastern Conference quarter-final – Recap
Buffalo Sabres shocked Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 to take the series lead in the Eastern Conference quarter-finals at the Wells Fargo Arena.
With a huge crowd present to witness the game, the teams were cautious at the beginning of the game.
However, the game opened up with the passage of time as both teams made quite a few shots on goal but they were not successful and the period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
The second period followed the same path, as both teams had several scoring opportunities but they were unable to find the back of the net.
The Flyers made quite a few shots on goal at the end but were unable to score and the teams went into the break goalless again.
The Sabres stunned the home fans as they scored early in the final period to get into the lead and which proved to be the lone goal of the game. In the end, the Sabres wrapped up Game 1 of the series 1-0 with James van Riemsdyk named the star of the game.
The first period was on the slower side to begin with but things got better with the passage of time. The Flyers were extra cautious as they have a history of crumbling in crunch situations. The teams barely went on the offence early on but chances started
to come once they settled down.
The Flyers and the Sabres both displayed some excellent playmaking which often put them in scoring positions. Unfortunately, this did not happen as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. Both teams made 10 shots on goal in the period.
The shots on goal and attacks continued right from the start of the second period but the problem of not being able to score remained existent. Though some of the chances in the period were clear cut scoring opportunities but the teams were unable to handle
the pressure and no goals were scored.
The second period saw the scores still deadlocked on 0-0 with the Flyers making 16 shots on goal while the Sabres made 9 goal attempts.
The Sabres upped the tempo at the start of the final 20 minutes of play. Their fast breaks were worth making as they scored in the sixth minute through Patrick Kaleta to get into the lead.
The goal proved to be the lone goal of the game which resulted in a Sabres victory. The final period witnessed the Sabres making 6 shots on goal while the Flyers made 9 shots on goal.
