Buffalo Sabres sign Tyler Ennis to two-year, $5.625 million deal -NHL Update
Tyler Ennis was secured by the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, September 15, 2012, as the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise signed him on to a two-year contract extension worth a reported $5.625 million.
The 22-year-old has proved himself to be quite an asset for the Buffalo Sabres these past few years and not signing him on would have only endangered their chances of success as the former collective bargaining agreement also came to an end that day.
"Tyler is a very important part of our offense and we are very happy to have him signed," Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said in a statement. "He has progressed as a player over the past few seasons and we are excited to see his growth, both as a person
and professional, in the years to come."
In three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres up until now, Ennis has put up 92 points (38 goals, 54 assists) in 140 games played in the North American major league.
"Talent-wise, he's an upper-echelon player," Regier added. "Obviously, he's got to overcome some issues like size, but he's fearless, he's got a big heart. It's a bit of an unknown, but we certainly have insight that allows us to project him to be a very
good player in the National Hockey League hopefully for a long time."
Ennis, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres as the 26th overall back in round-one of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and really came out in 2010-2011 to shine for Buffalo with a career high of 49 points (20 goals,
29 assists).
The biggest need for Buffalo in relevance to Tyler Ennis is probably his performance in the postseason as the youngster puts up points consistently, with four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 2010 and four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in the 2011 playoffs as
the Sabres failed to make it this time around.
Due to a looming lockout, there is no surety whether the next regular season will begin on time, but nevertheless, Tyler Ennis is prepared to continue performing at all costs and improving himself.
