Buffalo Sabres thrash Boston Bruins 6-0 -NHL Update
Boston had a taste of their own medicine after routing the Washington Capitals, 4-1, as the Buffalo Sabres thrashed the Stanley Cup defending Bruins in a, 6-0, shutout on Wednesday night, February 8, 2012, at the sold-out First Niagara Center in Buffalo,
New York, United States.
Veteran Buffalo goalie, Ryan Miller, was certainly at the top of his game as he blocked all 36 shots taken on his net by the rowdy Boston Bruins team that certainly looked to have given up at one moment due to all the frustration.
Playing without head coach, Lindy Ruff, was another factor for Buffalo to work harder towards getting their second straight win after he suffered three broken ribs due to an accident during their Monday morning practice.
For Boston, being shutout down and being scored on six times was certainly something they did not expect coming into the matchup, making it a much needed reality check.
"It's been a while since we had a loss like this. Maybe it's the best," Bruins’ forward, Milan Lucic, said. "Maybe it's a wakeup call and shows that we need to be much better and we can't take anyone lightly no matter who they are."
Tim Thomas, regarded as one of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) best goalies felt something that he regarded as much needed.
"I guess we were due for a game like that," Thomas said. "In the big picture, it doesn't matter if we lost 2-0 or 2-1 or 5-0 or whatever. We just have to pick ourselves up off the ground."
Christian Ehrhoff and Jason Pominville got the first two of the night to put Buffalo ahead entering the second period of regulation.
Two fights broke out between Boston’s Shawn Thornton, Milan Lucic and Buffalo’s Cody McCormick and Patrick Kaleta, giving all four players a five-minute penalty each.
Tyler Ennis and Patrick Kaleta kept the scoring momentum alive by grabbing two more for the Sabres while Jason Pominville and Drew Stafford capped off by added one each of their own, finalising the match for good.
Buffalo has gained some heat and will be looking to take advantage of it in their next contest against Dallas Stars at home while Boston Bruins host Nashville Predators on Saturday.
