Buffalo Sabres win 3-2 against Florida Panthers in overtime
The final game of Thursday saw the Florida Panthers play host to the Buffalo Sabres. The game was played at the Bank Atlantic Centre and was the 820th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
This was one of the most entertaining and interesting games of Thursday.
Throughout the course of the game there were shots on goal by both teams that often found the iron but not the back of the net. The offensive play from both teams also saw goals but the scores remained level on 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.
However, Buffalo Sabres successfully scored in overtime with just four seconds left to play to win the game 3-2.
Tyler Myers, defenseman of the Sabres, was named the star selection of the game after scoring a goal and making an important assist.
The first period saw both teams making a decent start to the game where they waited for chances to come their way. There were several shots in the first period from everywhere on the pitch that hit the framework and gave both teams a lot of confidence.
Despite all the hard work put in by both teams, neither of the teams was able to score. The score was deadlocked on 0-0 at the end of the first period with Buffalo Sabres making 8 goal attempts in the period while Florida Panthers made 5 goal attempts.
The second also saw both teams making a slow start. However, once they got going, chances started to come each team’s way. Some brilliant attacks were constructed but the goal keepers did an excellent job not allowing any goals.
Sabres goal keeper, Ryan Miller, came up with a superb performance as he stopped shots regularly even when he was down two on one.
Buffalo Sabres with some strong offensive characteristics successfully scored in the 11th minute through Mike Weber from a quick fired shot to take the lead. Both teams moved ahead firing shots on goal and coming up with some brilliant passing.
However, despite all this no goals were scored.
It was not until the 19th minute that we saw the next goal, which was scored in favour of the Panthers. The goal scored by Steve Bernier during power-play went through all the traffic from long range to find the back of the net.
The final period saw a few more shots on goal by both teams but no further goals were scored. During the course of the period, Buffalo Sabres made 7 goal attempts while Florida Panthers, made 12 goal attempts with the scores level on 1-1.
There weren’t as many shots in the final period but Sabres successfully took the lead with a goal in the 9th minute scored by Thomas Vanek from a tip in shot. However, the lead didn’t last long as Florida Panthers successfully scored through Marty
Reasoner in the very next minute to level the scores.
There were a few more goal attempts as the period neared its end but unfortunately no further goals were seen during the course of the remaining period. The scores were 2-2 at the end of the final period with Sabres making 9 goal attempts and Panthers making
6 goal attempts.
However, as the game proceeded into overtime it looked as if there wouldn’t be any goals scored and the game would go into a shootout. But Sabres scored through Tyler Myers from a long range powerful strike in the dying stages to win the game 3-2.
