Buffalo Sabres win 3-2 against the Ottawa Senators in the only overtime match of Tuesday
Ottawa Senators played host the Buffalo Sabres at the Scotiabank Place this Tuesday. This was the only game of Tuesday that went into overtime. This was the 738th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which was attended by around 19,000
fans.
Ottawa Senators managed to score in the final period to level the scores after they were trailing. The match went into overtime to be decided from where Buffalo Sabres emerged as 3-2 winners of the match. Ryan Miller, goal keeper of the Buffalo Sabres was
named the player of the match as he made 27 saves out of the 29 shots fired on his goal.
Both teams started off the period strongly as they fired shots on goal and constructed brilliant pieces of play. Pin point and quick passing was the main essence of the teams coming across scoring chances. It didn’t take long for the first goal to be scored.
The goal was scored in the 5th minute in favour of the Ottawa Senators by Chris Kelly from a brilliant flick shot. Buffalo Sabres got stronger and took advantage of some sloppy play by the Ottawa Senators after the goal. The away side levelled
the scores through Paul Byron in the 11th minute.
Buffalo Sabres continued to pile pressure on the Ottawa Senators and with the strong offence and quickness in their play scored to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Jochet Hecht from a superb backhand shot in the 16th minute.
Both teams continued to attack and scoring chances kept on coming for both teams. However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with Buffalo Sabres leading 2-1. During the course of the period Buffalo Sabres made 15 goal attempts while Ottawa
Senators made 12 goal attempts.
After a strong start to the match, Buffalo Sabres were on the back foot for most of the second period. Ottawa Senators with the strong defence restricted the away side to long range shooting during the early part of the period. Coupled with this was the
strong offence that gave the opposing team a very tough time firing shots on goal regularly.
The period didn’t see any goals but was thoroughly entertaining. The period ended with the Buffalo Sabres still leading 2-1. During the course of the period Ottawa Senators made 12 goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres ended up making 6 goal attempts.
The final period was totally dominated with both teams restricted each other to almost nothing during the course of the final period. There were rare and difficult chances for both teams but to score from them would require something extra ordinary.
Ottawa Senators displayed the extra bit scoring through Sergei Gonchar from a powerful strike to level the scores in the 14th minute. The period saw the home team making a few more goal attempts but no further goals were scored as they regulation
time period ended with the scores level on 2-2.
Consequently, the match went into overtime where Shaone Morrisonn scored in the 2nd minute to win the match 3-2 for the Buffalo Sabres.
