Buffalo Sabres win 4-1 against the Atlanta Thrashers
The first game of Wednesday was hosted by the Buffalo Sabres as they were up against the Atlanta Thrashers at the HSBC Arena. Both the teams are in the ninth and tenth placed in the Eastern Conference and a win here would help them a lot as they look to
make it into the eighth and final finishing spot.
The Sabres scored in the first and final periods with two goals in the second period to win the game 4-1 in the end. Though the teams were pretty much even in terms of shots on goal but the Thrashers failed to find the back of the net. Tyler Myers of the
Sabres was named the star of the game with as he scored a goal and came up with an important assist.
Both teams made a cautious start to the game which the teams coming up with decent passing and creating chances for themselves. They checked the goal keeper with strong long range shots but early on the defence of both teams did a good job.
The Thrashers on the other hand started to come up with some decent play and with the passage of time they too started to create scoring chances. However, they weren’t able to capitalize from this as the Sabres scored in the 8th minute to get
into the lead. The goal was scored by Tyler Myers from a powerful strike.
Though things slowed down after the goal but the game caught pace once again as the period neared its end. Scoring chances came in both teams’ ways but neither of the teams could find the back of the net. The period ended with the Sabres leading 1-0 with
both teams making 10 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The second period saw the Thrashers making a good start to the game which saw them coming across an early power play. The Thrashers successfully scored during the power play through Andrew Ladd to level the scores.
Both teams were strong offensively during the course of the period and came across several scoring chances. It was just a question of whether or not they could score any goals with the plentiful opportunities that came their way.
The period saw both teams’ offences totally taking over the game as they bombarded the opposing goal with shots regularly. However, it was until the dying stages of the period that we saw our next goal. After an unproductive period the Sabres frontline got
stronger which resulted in them scoring twice.
The first goal was scored by Paul Gaustad from a decent strike while the second was scored by Jason Pominville from a decent flick shot in the 19th and 20th minutes respectively. The period ended with the Sabres leading 3-1 in the end.
Both teams made 18 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The Sabres sealed the game with an early goal in the final period which was scored by Tyler Ennis from a brilliant strike. Both teams came up with a few good shots during the course of the period but there weren’t any goals as the period and game ended with
the Sabres winning 4-1.
The final period saw the Sabres making 11 goal attempts while the Thrashers came up with 13 goal attempts.
