Buffalo Sabres win 5-2 against the Anaheim Ducks
The Buffalo Sabres overcame the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 at the HSBC Arena. Tyler Ennis scored two goals, while captain Craig Rivet scored one to lead their team to victory.
The Anaheim Ducks made a few good attempts at the start of the match, while the home team dominated the remaining 20 minutes of the first period. The home team pushed for the opening goal, which resulted in them attacking the opposing goal regularly. In
doing so, the home team displayed some excellent skill with the puck, and put together some great attacking moves.
Much to the delight of the home fans, the Sabres scored in the fifth minute through Drew Stafford's brilliant backhand shot. The Sabres pressed on in search of another goal and scored in the 11th minute to double their
lead.  The goal was scored by Nathan Gerbe from a decent flick shot. The Buffalo Sabres scored their third in the 17th minute through Tyler Ennis, as the Sabres went into the break leading 3-0. During the first period, the
Ducks made just four goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres made 17 goal attempts.
The Sabres continued their strong performance in the second period. The determination to score more goals and win the match, saw them scoring their fourth goal in the fifth minute. The goal was scored by Tyler Ennis, who bagged his second for the night.
The Buffalo Sabres controlled the pace of the game like they did in the first period. They also put up a gritty performance in defence in the second period. The fans cheered the home team, and they came close to scoring on several occasions, but the shot
either went just wide or was stopped by the goal keeper.
The period ended with the Buffalo Sabres leading 4-0. They made 14 goal attempts in the period compared to the Anaheim Ducks nine.
The first half of the final period was a very hard fought contest, during which both sides played some fluid, attacking hockey. Both teams had chances, but they were rare and difficult, therefore no goals were scored.
However, the Anaheim Ducks finally managed to score in the 16th minute through Corey Perry’s excellent backhand shot. Buffalo Sabres also scored soon after to bag their fifth goal of the night in the 18th minute,
when Craig Rivet scored.
Corey Perry scored once again in the final minute to give the Ducks something to cheer about. During the course of the match, the Buffalo Sabres made 42 goal attempts while the Anaheim Ducks made 23 goal attempts. Tyler Ennis was declared the star player
of the match.
