Buffalo Sabres win 5-3 against New York Islanders
New York Islanders hosted the Buffalo Sabres this Sunday in the 724th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match took place at the Nassau Coliseum with around 10,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The match was evenly matched by both the teams but with the passage of time New York Islanders got stronger and stronger. However, Buffalo Sabres managed to turn the tables in the final period and scored three goals and in the end won the match 5-3. Tyler
Ennis was named the star selection of the match as he scored a goal and made a very important assist.
Buffalo Sabres exploded at the start and scored with the very first attack of the match. The away side took advantage of the sloppy defensive work at the start. The Buffalo Sabres took the lead with the goal scored by Paul Gaustad from a simple tip in shot.
The period saw both teams coming up with brilliant passing and shooting abilities. There were several chances for both teams to score but their frontline failed to bag goals. With attacks by both teams hinted that there was goal coming.
However, this didn’t happen despite the numerous goal attempts made by both teams. Buffalo Sabres led 1-0 going into the break with each team making 10 goals during the course of the 20 minutes of play.
New York Islanders changed their strategy which immediately worked as they started to come up with attacks. The home team, much to the delight of the fans, scored in the 2nd minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Matt Moulson from
a decent strike.
Buffalo Sabres responded to this with attacks. The away side worked hard constant and there were several chances for them to score. Constantly threatening the goal, Buffalo Sabres finally managed to score through Tyler Ennis from a brilliant backhand shot
in the 5th minute.
With the Buffalo Sabres leading, New York Islanders were the team to watch. The home team seemed to be on fire and they controlled the pace of the game. The Islanders managed to score through Matt Moulson from a simple tip in shot in the 14th
minute to level the scores once again.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with New York Islanders making 17 goal attempts and the Buffalo Sabres making 5 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Buffalo Sabres making a great start and they were able to capitalize from the start. The away side successfully took the lead with Nathan Gerbe’s goal in the second minute. A few minutes later, Buffalo Sabres managed to double their
advantage with the goal scored by Tyler Myers from a brilliant backhand shot.
Both teams settled after a hustled up period. As the period neared its end, both teams started to attack once again. The home team, with the backing of the fans, managed to cut the lead to just one goal. The goal was scored by Jack Hillen from a brilliant
strike in the 17th minute.
However, it was Buffalo Sabres who scored through Jason Pominville in the final minute to seal the match 5-3 for the Buffalo Sabres. During the course of the period, Buffalo Sabres made 8 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 7 goal attempts.
