Buffalo Sabres wins 3-2 against the New York Rangers while on the road in New York
The first game of Tuesday was played at the Madison Square Garden as the home team, New York Rangers played host to the Buffalo Sabres.
A win for the Sabres was important if they wanted to stay in hunt for the play-off spot while the Ranger needed a win to cement their position in the cut further.
However, things turned out to be different as the Sabres led at the end of the first period.
Both teams scored a goal apiece in the remaining two periods. Resultantly, it was the Sabres who won the game 3-2 in the end.
Jochen Hecht of Sabres was named the star of the game as he scored the winning goal.
The teams started off slowly after which the teams caught pace. The Sabres started to create chances for them regularly with the Rangers also notching up a few shots on goal.
The teams were pretty much even during the course of the period which resulted in them cancelling out each other.
The Sabres came across a power play during the final stages which resulted in them scoring in the 18th minute through Tyler Myers from a decent strike to get into the lead.
Rangers also came up with a few shots on goal but couldn’t find the net. The period ended with the Sabres leading 1-0 as the teams went into the break.
During the course of the period, the Sabres made nine goal attempts while the Rangers made five goal attempts during the 20 minutes of play.
The second period started off with both teams making a quick start to the game which saw them attacking right from the word go.
They created chances and made shots on goal and it was just a matter of time as to when they would score.
It took some time but a goal was finally scored in the 13th minute in favour of the Sabres who doubled the lead with Brad Boyes scoring. The goal was scored during power play.
However, the Rangers also took advantage of this as they scored through Erik Christensen from a well placed flick shot in the very same minute.
The Rangers ended the period stronger of the two teams as they fired shots on goal every now and then.
The period ended with the Sabres leading 2-1 at the end of the period. During the course of 20 minutes of play, the Rangers made 16 goal attempts while the Sabres made 11 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Sabres extending their lead once again as they scored through Jochen Hecht from a simple tip-in shot in the 5th minute to double their lead.
The game became a total offensive battle which saw the Rangers also coming across loads of possession.
Though the Rangers scored in the 7th minute through Artem Anisimov from a well placed shot in the 7th minute to cut the lead to single goal they weren’t able to score further goals.
The period ended with the Rangers winning the game by 3-2 in the end.
