Buffalo Sabres wins 7-4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the Buffalo Sabres at the St. Pete Times Forum. This was the 806th game of the season which was expected to be pretty much one sided with Tampa Bay Lightning favourites to win.
A big crowd showed up to witness the game which saw Tampa Bay Lightning coming up with a good performance and leading at the end of the second period. However, Buffalo Sabres turned the tables in the final period to score five goals and win 7-4 in the end.
Drew Stafford, winger of the Sabres was named the star selection of the match after he scored three goals with two in the final period.
Both teams made a decent start which saw them constructing attacks regularly. There were several goal attempts made by both teams. The strength and regularity of attacks resulted in the first goal of the game scored in the 7th minute in favour
of Tampa Bay Lightning. The goal was scored by Sean Bergenheim from a well placed flick shot.
Shots on goal continued and the teams constructed some brilliant pieces of play in doing so. Buffalo Sabres matched the Tampa Bay in the middle part of the period offensively and scored through Drew Stafford to level the scores. The period ended with no
further goals with the scores level on 1-1. During the period, Sabres made 11 goal attempts while Tampa Bay Lightning made 13 goal attempts.
T he second period saw the home team pick up pace as they started to attack right from the word go. Captain Vincent Lecavalier was on target and put the Tampa Bay ahead scoring in the 5th minute. Both teams continued to attack and the game saw
Tampa Bay Lightning scoring once again in the 12th minute. The goal was scored by Sean Bergenheim who bagged his second for the night.
Buffalo Sabres were also rewarded for the hard work they put in with a goal scored by Thomas Vanek in the 19th minute but was Tampa Bay Lightning who led 3-2 as the period ended. During the period, Tampa Bay made 11 goal attempts while Buffalo
Sabres made 5 goal attempts.
The last 20 minutes of the game saw both teams coming up with attacks every now and then but it was Buffalo Sabres who proved to be more productive.
With the strong offense, the Sabres scored through Jordon Leopold in the 5th minute through a wonderful long range powerful strike to level the scores. The moved on smoothly until the 11th minute after which there was a flurry of goals.
The Buffalo Sabres scored all the three goals scored in the 11th and 12th minutes respective. The first goal was scored by Tim Connolly from a decent backhand shot. The second and third goals were scored in the 12th minute
by Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford respectively.
Two minutes later, Sabres scored once again with Drew Stafford completing his hat-trick from a very well placed flick shot. Tampa Bay Lighting finally managed to respond with a goal in the 17th minute scored by Captain Vincent Lecavalier but Buffalo
Sabres won the match 7-4.
During the final period, Buffalo Sabres made 12 goal attempts while Tampa Bay Lightning made 10 goal attempts.
