  1. Buffer solution is a solution that keeps the pH same while adding acid or base.

    Buffer capacity: is the maximum concentration that can keep the pH same. Found by the equation pH=pKa

    pKa is a balanced constant of an acid. For example:

    CH3COOH + H2O------->CH3COO- + H3O

    Ka=[CH3COO-][H3O]/[CH3COOH]

    pKa=-logKa


  2. During the titration process and before the equivalent point is reached, some acid has been neutralized by the strong base, and the solution contains a weak acid and its salt. The solution acts as a buffer.
