Buffet Question?

Hi I would like to get my son christened this summer thing is we do not have much money for the buffet and we have a lot of family who really wants to go.

We thought of making our own buffet to bring with us but we got a room hire that was the cheapest we can find but they won't allow us to bring our own food as do with most places.

How can we make the buffet cheaper and spread out more without leaving any family members out?

If weather is a concern, perhaps a family member belongs to a church that will let you use their hall for a "love donation?" Some churches have well-equipped kitchens and banquet tables & chairs.

I totally agree with having it at a park.  Preferably one that has a covered picnic table area in case of rain.  I know the park closest to us rents out that sheltered area for about $25, you just have to call and reserve it.  And I totally agree with potluck.  I totally understand how money is tight for all of us right now.  I don't think close family and friends would mind bringing one dish.  Be sure to put in the invites that you will be providing the main food (corned beef brisket, ham, whatever), sodas, water, iced tea and/or punch, and the disposable stuff like plates, napkins, cups, that kind of thing.



One of the reasons I think potluck would also be good is because it's a conversation starter.  "That's Aunt Jane's pasta salad, that's Uncle Joe's famous pecan pie.  You have got to try cousin Rachel's amazing salsa!"  Plus the kids have a place to play.



And don't forget a ton of ice, garbage bags, cameras, paper towels, and a radio/CD player for some light background music.  I'm sure it will be a great time!

Grocery deli departments make platters of sandwiches wraps or cut subs inexpensively for a crowd.

I would cancel the hall. I would have it at a local park and ask everyone to bring a covered dish. You supply drinks plates forks and make some beef brisket or pulled pork and enjoy the day.

Or just figer foods at the hall and not have a meal.

Cancel the room.  You cant have a celebration without food.  Where are you planning to have the buffet if you cant have it in the room??

Are they offering you a menu to choose from?  We need more info

Well.....you  could  be  up front and tell them  everyone  has to pay  for their own, but  thats always an  ackward conversation, but most people don't mind...

you could do a pot luck buffet at home or a park, you provide the meat and drinks and ask everyone to bring a side dish...the may thing  is  being together and celebrating the event...if  they really are freinds and family  they  dont mind

If it's not too late to lose your deposit I would seriously cancel having it in a hall. I would check out having it at a park or place where you are able to make & bring your own food - that way you can invite everyone that you'd like! It's a special day for your son & I'm sure you want everyone to be there to share it - it's not fair to leave family and friends out because of the banquet room restrictions. Also - any family or friends with a house or yard large enough to accommodate? That's a thought, too.

What about a picnic in the park, like a family reunion? I assume you do not have room at your home. Or just have finger foods at your home. People want to see the baby they are not there to eat. Good luck!
