The Nazionale keeper conceded that the wait for the start of their match made him anxious and stressed on the importance of victory in the European Championships.
The Azzurri will take on the reigning World and European Champions in their Group C match due to be played on 10th of June at the PGE Arena in Gdansk. Cesare Prandelli’s men have suffered losses through injury and the
Scommessopoli scandal which has put Italian football in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, once again.
The Calciopoli incident rocked Italian football in 2006, and as a fitting tribute to their fans, la Nazionale won the World Cup in 2006. There have been suggestions of a repeat of a similar feat going into the European Championships,
but things have changed as well. In response to his own feelings regarding the tournament, Gigi Buffon went on to state:
“I have a little fear and curiosity as to our game, quite justifiably, it is as if, after two years of work, we are under examination…and each examination will bring respective difficulties and adversities.”
The Italy national team captain is determined to achieve success in this edition of the Championships, and gave an emotional speech, where he sought to address the fans on their commitment. The passionate Italian was quoted to
have said:
“We want, hope and believe…we would exchange two or three years of our life to return to the place we all dream of… rediscover the nation’s pride... Your support and your love will be critical and would be the strongest signal
against those who want to create fractures between us and you.”
The most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football went on to state that there was anxiety in place before the start of the match, but he was hopeful that their hard work would pay off at the European Championship.
Italy’s quality and depth has come under question, especially after the injury to their central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-De-Rossi-c10112 in Barzagli’s place, which is a relatively unfamiliar
role for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 midfielder.
The match between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 kicks off at 17.00 GMT.
