I live in Kent, England and since yesterday i have noticed all these weird little bugs on the path, there about 2x or 3x the size of ants, a brownie blackie colour and some have wings?

Why have they recently started showing now and what are they called ?

  1. it sounds like there flying ants, we have them too. wait a couple of days and they should be gone. its this time of year and when it gets humid

  2. It was Ant Day yesterday.

Seriously, every year (since I have lived in London anyway), the flying ants appear and cover the pavements, looking for human flesh to devour.

The big wingless ones you see are winged ones that have shed their wings and are about to die.

Spare a moment to think of the family these wingless cripples leave behind. They only live for a day, before they die and their offspring gorge themselves on their corpses.

  3. I think they taste like chicken.

  4. They could be carpenter ants. Some have wings in order to spread the colony to new areas. They also like eating through wood like termites. I once had a pile of old boards out back of my place and when I picked up the top board I could see what looked like tunnels in the one below. In they get into the wood in your house they can cause damage. Good Luck and have a nice day.

  5. that sucks!
