Question:

Bug on my dog's tongue?

I just noticed a black bug that is stuck on my dog's tongue! I can't get it off by scraping, and I am afraid of hurting him. Has anyone ever seen this before? He is still a pup and loves to play outside. So I am guessing he got the bug when he was chewing on something. Help please!

  1. It sounds like the dog has a tick on his tongue.Get some tweezers and try not to smash the bug in case it is a tick.Ticks releases poison.

  2. OMG my dog had that the other day too. she was picking up ants with her tounge and they claw you somtimes so it got stuck to her tounge and it was stuck for a while haha and im a teenager so i got a stick and scraped it off ahahah it was gross but it worked i think it might be the same thingg ahha

  3. maybe its just a birthmark? all dogs have a black spot on their tongues...

or else it might be a TICK in his TONGUE. highly unlikely

  4. Most likely it is a tick. They live in trees, bushes, and tall grass just waiting for an animal to come by, and if your dog's mouth was open, he coulda gotten in there somehow. If you cannot take it out yourself, the tick has probably been there for a while. They irritate your dog and I suggest you go to a vet to get it removed. You could also burn it off, but I'm pretty sure that's going to be a little too dangerous.

  5. Trust me ..not ALL dogs have black spots on their tongues!  Some indeed do..depending on their breed or cross breed

Tick..could be but when you say it looks like an Aunt makes me think about the larger black ants found outside around trees and such..they bite. They also can bite onto you and if you mash them at the right time can get sort of stuck there.

I had one crawling on my foot one time and when it bit me I mashed it and it was like trying to remove a tick when I reached down to pull it off.

If it is a tick ..like the other poster said be careful when removeing it..they release toxins form their mouths when pinched, burnt and smothered with any thing...you have to grab them with tweezers just behind the head and pull back in the direction the tick is headed..not to the side..not to the front..you dont want to leave the head in his tongue.

But I would think about taking him to the vet and let them remove whatever it is. Good Luck!!
