  1. No, not all Harleys have had fuel injection since 2000. IIRC Harley started offering fuel injection on the baggers somewhere around 1996 or 1997 but it was not put on every bike since then. The main reason Harley is switching over to FI is due to emission standards. It's easier to make the bikes pass the smog bs with fuel injection.

As far as what custom bike builders use for the most part they use regular carburetors for ease of wiring and maintenance. But there are some aftermarket FI systems out there that look promising.

  2. you dont have to work out any wiring or electronics problems with a carburetor.

harley first offered fi in 1995 you can bet  ALL those have had some problem causing resistance changes at the connections in the last 13 years.

electronic devices dont improve with age as people do.

  3. All HD's since '07 are EFI... carbs just won't get it in the emissions area and the regs change again in 2010. Most custom builders use carbs because the EFI is more expesive (harness, ECU, fuel pump and more) and quite frankly, they don't have the expertise (each bike must be started with a laptop attached). Few aftermarket engines other than S&S 124, have EFI as an option. We build most with HD Twin Cam B so if we get a 96inch it's EFI.We had to adapt.

  4. most of those engines are not custom built... they are engines fully built that the frame was built to fit....

carbs and fuel injection both have their ups and downs...if carbs had no value on a bike anymore, they wouldn't still being used.

  5. Use an S&S motor and a carb. You won't be disappointed.

  6. I do Most of my people want to work on their own

Some even want points in them  I run points in mine

  7. I use panheads, shovelheads, so I use a S n S carb.
