Does anyone have any tips on building a really good AM antenna? I can't get good reception on my radio, and I can't find an AM antenna in the store. I was wondering if anyone here has any tips on building one?

and i mean a DIECENT AM antenna. My reciever doesn't pick up ANY AM stations without any sort of antenna.... im using a UHF bowtie antenna witch does NOT do the trick very well. [AND BTW DONT BE ANSWERING WITH "SWITCH TO FM!!" OR "DOES YOUR RADIO WORK?" OR ANY g*y *** RETARDED QUESTIONS LIKE THAT.

  1. Look up a antenna named a dipole antenna that should work good for you

  2. Depends upon how much room you have.

The guy above me had it right with a dipole... sort of what some radios use for FM.. however to have a really good one requires lots of real estate (about 300 feet or so was my biggest I've helped build)

But truthfully, depending upon where and such, most radios come with a round coil of fine wire that attaches to the input of the radio antenna...

Biggest issue with AM is a need for wire or a ground.. I know DXers use about 50 feet or more of fine wire for reception (In a beverage configuration) but since I don't have an idea of what you are trying to receive it's kind of hard to give you a straight up answer as most universal Am antennas are just wire wrapped over a ferrite coil.

I know Duh likes a am booster called select-tenna
