Building a balcony?

How would you seal the roof of your house if you remove a portion of the roof to install a balcony? the floor of the balcony would now be the roof on that portion and im not sure how to seal it off so it doesn't leak into the house. is there something to put down under the balcony or is it all in the sealing of the balcony itself?

  1. Use metal flashing and caulking that will expand and contract. Cover with tar to complete the waterproofing.
