Question:

Building a computer.?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I am planning on building a computer. With a budget in mind what is the best bang for my buck. From the Casing, motherboard, to the power supply. And about how much will it run me. i have a gift card to amazon for some of it and would like some of the answers to come from there.

I have looked into this for a while but it seems a little overwhelming. i just want to make sure that the system as a whole is compatible and pretty powerful.

Thank you and the best answer will receive good points.

  1. Case and PSU---http://www.amazon.com/II-Black-Mid-Tower...

ASUS Mobo AMD AM2+(M3A78-EM) $79.99--add ons-- ,AMD X3 8650 Phenom Processor (low end Quad core processor),WD Raptor 300 GB HDD(10,000RPM SATA), 2GB RAM (Crucial), O.S. Windows XP Pro w/SP3,GeForce 9600GT 512Mb video card---Directron.com link at Amazon.com

    About $965USD+Shipping costs

  2. About £500 and you'll get something decent - assuming you already have a monitor.

    A nice Intel processor - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145258

    Mobo - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146716

    GPU - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135567

    Case - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136491

Select whatever you like from Amazon.

  3. Post more details. Give me an exact budget and what you plan to use the computer for (gaming, video editing, just basic web surfing, etc...)

and as a reply to the guy above, mathematically the ATI 3870 gives the best price to peformance ratio.

  4. I used to build my own but found that I could usually get a better system cheaper on the manufacturers' (Dell, Gateway or whoever you prefer) website for refurbished systems. Downside: it may take lots of patience waiting on something that suits you to show up at a price you like. Upside: the components will be compatible and there may even be some decent software and a warranty included.

  5. I have been tempted to build my own as well,  but how could you beat this for $501 on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-CORE-2-DUO-E84...

then add from that.  Would have a sweet system for less than $700

  6. As far as a video card goes the Nvidia 8800 GT is by far the best bang for the buck.

  7. Here is a build based on a $1000 budget-

    CPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    GPU-http://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-SLI-Re...

    Mobo-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    RAM-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    OS-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    PSU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    Hard Drive-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    Case-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    Heat sink-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    Optical Drive-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

You may want to get yourself some thermal paste for your heat sink, I recommend Arctic Silver 5. Your subtotal, without tax or shipping is $863.

  8. for advice i would go in to your local newsagent and buy a computer magazine that is well Known, they will tell you what the best products are for the best price, i would buy my computer stuff from newegg or scan.

  9. 8800 GT awesome card, got it in my custom built budget computer.

Avoid eBay the prices are low but so is the service and most of the time the quality.

eBuyer is a great site to get parts from, it is cheap reliable and fast. I discovered them wile building this machine.

Pick your motherboard First then build up from that, sometimes sites will offer deals where the processor and RAM comes with the board. These are quite good as you can guarantee they will not conflict, unless it is a bad seller.

I wish you the best of luck with your project and enjoy it. My rig is in my profile, I made that a year ago for £270 not including accessories.
